December 18, 2022: Witnessing Pain

Dear Diary,

I've been thinking about something that happened today all the time. Sarah, one of my friends, arrived at school with bruises all over her arms. She attempted to dismiss it at first, but after a while she confided in me and said that her partner had been assaulting her. It stunned me. It never occurred to me that someone I love could be experiencing this. Even though I feel powerless and even angry, I know there is something I can do. In my legal studies, I've learned a great deal about how prosecutors support victims of domestic abuse. Perhaps this is the reason I find this field of law appealing. Witnessing Sarah's ordeal broadened my perspective.  I want to help people like her, people trapped in these terrifying situations who don’t know where to turn.
